Actual Currents ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding that information when you use our website at actualcurrents.com and our mobile applications (collectively, "the Service").

Information you provide:

• Account information (email address, name, profile photo) if you create an account via our authentication provider
• Payment information if you subscribe to Pro (processed by Stripe — we never see or store your card number)
• Feedback and support messages you send us
• Log entries and photos you choose to upload

Information collected automatically:

• General location data (the map region you view) to serve relevant current predictions
• Anonymous usage analytics via Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics tool that does not use cookies and does not collect personal data
• Device type and browser information (via standard HTTP headers)

Information we do NOT collect:

• We do not store your precise GPS coordinates on our servers (GPS is used on-device only for the map display)
• Tracking cookies or third-party advertising identifiers
• Personal information from children under 13
• Credit card numbers or payment card details (handled entirely by Stripe)

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide and improve the Service
• Authenticate your account and manage your subscription tier
• Process payments and manage billing (via Stripe)
• Respond to your feedback and support requests
• Display your log entries and photos within the Service (if you choose to make them public)
• Understand aggregate usage patterns to improve performance and features

4. Third-Party Service Providers

We use the following third-party services to operate the Service:

• Clerk — Authentication and account management. Clerk processes your email address and profile information when you sign in. Clerk acts as a data processor on our behalf.
• Stripe — Payment processing for Pro subscriptions. Stripe processes your payment information directly — we never receive or store your card details. Stripe acts as an independent data controller for payment data.
• Plausible Analytics — Privacy-focused, cookie-free web analytics. No personal data is collected.
• Amazon Web Services (AWS) — Cloud hosting and data storage. Data is stored in the United States.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on secure servers hosted in the United States (AWS). We use industry-standard security measures including:

• Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS for all connections)
• Authentication via cryptographically signed tokens (JWT)
• Rate limiting to prevent abuse
• No storage of payment card data (handled by Stripe)

However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

• Account data — retained while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion request.
• Log entries and photos — retained until you delete them or request account deletion.
• Feedback messages — retained indefinitely for product improvement (not linked to your account).
• Payment data — retained by Stripe per their privacy policy. We store only your subscription status (free/pro), not payment details.
• Analytics data — Plausible retains aggregated, anonymous data only.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
• Export your data in a structured format (data portability)
• Object to or restrict certain processing
• Withdraw consent at any time

Actual Currents does not use tracking cookies. We use Plausible Analytics, which is cookie-free and compliant with GDPR, CCPA, and PECR without requiring a cookie consent banner. Clerk may use essential cookies for authentication session management.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
